I’m proud to have been featured in Main Street Magazine recently; interviewed by Leora Armstrong in discussion around my artistic process, inspiration and life.
Here’s an extract…
‘Which leads me to ask: what motivates your practice?’
For me, making work is like an itch that must be scratched. When I see the potential in a photograph, or when I witness a moment that prompts me to take one, I sense the possibility of creating something unusual. That spark is what excites me about life.
‘Have you always painted?’
I returned to painting later in life, though I have always been creative. It was only after moving to London that I truly had the opportunity to focus on it. Honestly, the weather was so bleak that I made a New Year’s resolution to take either a painting or writing class to get through the winter.
Christina Dobbs: A Portrait
Please view the short documentary on my practice – made by the filmmaker, Greg Bushell. It combines 16mm film, Super-8 film, and more modern digital videos (the latter two mediums being "home movies” of both my childhood as well as my children’s).
2022
Seeking to explore the fragility of existence, its nature of being in a constant state of flux and vulnerability to change, Christina Dobbs’ work occupies a blurred space between abstraction and figuration.
